National Artist Run Initative Network

Signal : (transcript available at signal page) a national forum taking place in 2004 between 7 regional ARI : the discussion focused upon the ways and means by which ARIs can provide a context for each other, leading to links and opportunities for collaboration and exchange across the country. It was found that exchange between ARI that are isolated from other ARI is the most important way to sustain practice of emerging artists in regional locations. Exchange not just of art work, but of artist who can share skills, resources and knowledge.

Play : the exhibition of the 7 ARI in 7 suitcases

7DAYS : Allans Walk Committee of Management has invited 7 ARI located outside of Melbourne and Sydney to participate in 7DAYS. Each space, instead of sending an art work, will send a member of their committee of management to participate in a 7DAY residency at Allans Walk. During this 7DAY period each ARI artist will work with emerging artists based in Central Victoria to develop/curate an exhibition/production. It is expected that through the process of socializing, sharing ideas, talking and looking at art work that an exchange of contemporary art practice for regionally based artists will take place.

Spaces participating include Rocketart Newcastle, NSW; Arc Yinnar Vic, Front Room Geelong, Vic, RAW Brisbane, QLD; Downtown Adelaide SA, Watch This Space Alice Springs NT (7th space yet to be confirmed).

The process of exchange and outcome will be documented photographically and through a series of interviews and essays. Produce a hard publication and distribute publication nationally and make available through out the years project on www.7suitcases.com.
